From the moment I first saw two lines I have been looking forward to reading to my child, especially all the books I loved as a child. One of my favorite bedtime rituals was crawling into my moms bed with my sister and listening to hear read stories to us and later chapters out of chapter books. Even when I could read on my own there was something about being read to that I loved. I could close my eyes and just be in the story. My favorite books of all times that she would read to us were the CHRONICLES OF NARNIA books. I wished there was a magic land in the back of my closet. I think I am going to wait until Lucas is a little older to get those books to read to him, but I am SO EXCITED that Disney is making THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA into a movie (even though the book is always better then the movie).
So far I've gotten him:
IF YOU GIVE A MOUSE A COOKIE (I just love how giving a mouse a cookie sets off this huge chain of events, there are other books in the series but this one is my favorite).
LITTLE TREASURY OF BEATRIX POTTER (my favorite is the two mice that live in a doll house)
Richard Scarry Books
GOOD NIGHT MOON (the classic bedtime story).
I still am looking for:
I AM NOT GOING TO GET UP TODAY
LITTLE BEAR BOOKS
When he gets older I will get
THE PHANTOM TOLLBOOTH which is my all time favorite book that I read on my own. I have reread it so many times. I passed it on to my first nephew Matthew and it was like sharing part of my childhood (at least for me). I also will get the Sideways Stories Books... they are just so funny.
Can you tell I love books? (especially children's books?) I just want to be one of those moms that reads to their kids and gets them to fall in love with reading.
Growing up I would spend the summers with my Grandma and she would always take us to the library to sign us up for the summer reading program. I would check out as many books as my little arms could hold each week. There is just something about the smell of library books that I love.
Well I think it's time for my nightly ice cream! YUM!
