"You are the proud new parent of a baby with colic," is what I told Curt today when I called him. After a lengthy talk with the lactation people I saw in the hospital they told me that everyone was right last week, Lucas doesn't have thrush, or a sore throat, but what it must be is colic.
Reading all those parenting books the first few weeks I would skip over the sections on colic because my kid didn't have it. I'm actually relieved that Lucas probably does have Colic, because it means then it isn't something I've done wrong. There is nothing wrong with my milk, I'm not poisoning my baby. Also that means there isn't anything that needs to be "fixed," we just wait it out and in the meantime just try to console Lucas the best we can.
I looked it Colic up and was surprised to find out that with Colic the baby's crying intensifies between 6 and 8 weeks. So that is exactly when it started and it also says that rocking and keeping the baby in motion can calm him, which would explain why at night I can only nurse him successfully if I am in motion.
I feel so much better now and less stressed out and I seem to have more patience now. I'm just glad it doesn't last all day. I'm just glad my little guy gets relief during the day and that Curt is home to help me soothe him at night.
Now here are the pictures that show how much Lucas loves getting dressed.
