Family Picnic

This afternoon our playgroup had its first family picnic. Curt didn't go with me because he is shy and HATES meeting new people. A few of the Dads go to birthday parties and meet-ups so he was worried that they all know each other and he would be the odd man out. I keep telling him he is going to have to meet everyone at Lucas' birthday party and for some reason he seems fine with that. It would be really cool if he did become friends with some of the other Dads though. It would be an easy way to get more couple friends! Lucas has been teething and having diaper rash and hasn't been in the best mood lately. When we first got to the picnic I was ready to just leave and go home because NOTHING was making him happy. Instead of being laid back like I usually am I was letting my frustration with him get the best of me and I was in a bad mood too. I don't think I was the most fun person to be hanging out with at first. (Plus on top of that it was HOT!!!!)

Just as I was about to pack up and go home I remembered that there was a faucet next to the picnic tables so I asked Lucas if he wanted to go wash his hands. He finally agreed with my suggestion and followed me over and cautiously washed his hands.

Before too long he was sticking his whole body under the water. I could care less that he was getting soaked because he was finally happy and not clinging to me and whining!
Lucas soon had some of his friends joining in on the fun! I was a little worried that some of the parents would be annoyed that I started something with the water but lucky for me everyone pretty much have the same "hey they are happy!" philosophy that I do
It was pretty funny to watch the kids playing in the water. They kept finding sticks and leaves to "wash."
Right before I put his dry clothes on him Lucas was VERY happy to jump in the puddle of wet leaves. Before too long it was time to eat and once he was cooled down and had a belly full of food he was in a better mood... and so was I.
