The Dining Room Saga

Curt and Michael discussing plans/ Closet with framed out with some dry wall/ Dry Wall finished, holes filled in, and tile started Posted by Hello

Our dining room floor used to be raised up higher then the rest of the kitchen. (Sorry I don't have a picture of this but you just have to visualize the area that is covered in new wood in the first picture as being raised up about 6 inches... to the height of the brown trim along the wall). Now that this has been explained onto the rest of the story...

Well, a few weeks ago we were having dinner with Curt's side of the family and someone had the idea that if the dining room floor was ripped out, and replaced to be the same height as the kitchen floor the room would be bigger and we would have more floor space and Curt's uncle Micheal would do it. During all of the talking Curt had an idea to create a closet out of the nook area (where the shelves are hanging behind the guys in the first picture).

Michael ripped out the floor and put one layer of underflooring down, and one layer of plywood down but it wasn't level, so Curt's Grandfather came over Friday and helped Michael put down another layer of plywood on half of the floor. On Saturday Curt and Michael finished the floor and framed out the closet and started to dry wall. (The middle picture is what it looked like after they were finished on Saturday)

Monday Michael started his job so Curt decided to do some work by himself (because the rest of the house looks like a tornado hit because we have the books that were on the shelves everywhere as well as the kitchen table and chairs and other things just taking up space in the living room... it isn't pretty). So he finished dry walling in the closet area.

Well today he asked me to pick up a box of tile, dry wall tape, and dry wall compound. (Which I did). When he walked in from work he immediately got to work here. He filled in all the screw holes with the drywall compound and then taped and filled in the seams and started retiling the floor. Then dinner was ready (see previous post) so I talked him into taking a break for tonight. The final picture is what it looked like after he stopped working for the day.

I was so overwhelmed by what all Curt was doing while he was laying tile and I was cooking dinner that I burst into tears (of course the whole pregnant thing has a lot to do with it!) I told him that I was just so impressed that he could do so many things that I didn't know he could do things like this and he said "I didn't know either"

Tomorrow night we have our first childbirth class. I'm excited, Curt isn't. I don't think he is looking forward to being around a whole bunch of pregnant lady's complaining about their swollen feet and aching backs, but then all the other women said their husbands feel the same way.
