"Never be afraid to try something new. Remember, amateurs built the ark. Professionals built the Titanic."
Our changing Dining Room Before: August 2003/Now: June 2005
Today Andea (Curt's Mom) and Ken (his Grandpa)came back to help Curtis get some work done in the dining room. It looks so amazing!
I found a picture from August 2003 to show everyone what the dining room looked like before the renovation began. In it Curt is replacing the floor. It is a long story but basically the air conditioner leaked and we didn't realize it and it rotted the floor. On our second wedding anniversary we came home from being out of town and I walked over to the AC unit to turn it off since it had frozen over and I fell right through the floor. I hurt my leg to bad that I thought it was broken, and I still have a scar! Anyway, the first major project that Curt's grandpa Ken ever helped him with here was ripping up the floor and replacing it.
In the before picture you can see how the dining room floor was originally raised up from the rest of the kitchen floor and where the hutch and shelves originally were (which is now where the closet with the white door is now). Today they finished adding the wood along the wall, the baseboards, and the chair rail. They also framed in the closet and windows and started to paint them white. After Andrea and Ken left (and I took a nice LONG nap), Curt framed in the front door, and framed in the baby's room door and started adding trim on the ceiling in the living room. This is starting to look like a totally different place. Right now we are thinking of replacing our couch (which is being supported by boards underneath the cushions) with a wooden Futon.
As everything is coming together I am starting to get less stressed. There are still a few more things to be done in the dining room, like putting shelving in the closet, putting a few more coats of paint on the walls, fixing the rest of the floor tile, and getting rid of our old kitchen table. (Oh and of course clean out all the tools from the middle of the floor) I do feel bad that I've hardly helped at all, since I am 8 months pregnant they hardly will let me do anything, but then it is kind of nice at the same time!
