Today our meet up was at the beach so I sucked up my HUGE dislike for all things sandy and packed the sand toys, towels, and a lunch and headed to Tybee. Lucas wasn't excited about the car ride so I explained to him that we were going to the Beach, "You know the place with the water and sand. It is where the fishies live." He excitedly kept repeating "Sharks! Sharks! Sharks!" I guess he remembered them from the Aquarium trip last week.
When he started seeing water out of the car window he started to get VERY excited. The second his feet touched the beach sand he started to run for the water. I don't know how I did it but I was able to wrangle him into his swimsuit before he hit the water.
The kids found their own personal beach front pool that someone else spent a lot of time digging. They didn't get to play in it for too long because the tide was coming in and washed it away.
We brought sand toys but Lucas wasn't that into playing in the sand. He wanted to be out in the water as much as possible.
When Lucas DID take a break from the water he would be freezing so I had to take off all his swim gear and put on a romper to warm him up. Since he was in and out of the romper I didn't button it up. I overheard one of Lucas' friends saying to their Mom "Look Mommy, Lucas is wearing a dress." I couldn't help but laugh. Little kids notice EVERYTHING!
Some of the people in our playgroup got to the beach early and some of them didn't come until late. Lucas and I arrived in the middle so we were by ourselves for a little bit. Lucas had fun investigating everything under the Pier and made friends with everyone that was remotely close to us. I took him pretty far out into the water and he held on to each other while we jumped the waves and we both laughed and had the best time.
After being at the beach for four hours Lucas was exhausted and shivering but he still did not want to leave. He kept crying "water, water!" and pointing to the waves while I packed everything up. This kid had the best time today! I know he would have fun but I didn't expect he would be laying in the water trying to paddle out while the waves splashed in his face and loving every minute of it. I guess I need to suck up my disdain for the beach sand and take him more often. Only next time I'll know that asking Lucas to rub sunscreen on my back isn't effective sun protection.
