Poor Little Crabs

Today we had our playgroup meet up at the Aquarium. It was Lucas' third time there but our first time back since they renovated it (and doubled the admission prices.) The kids had a blast but I was a little disappointed. I guess I thought the renovations were going to be more of a big deal then they were. One of the things they did add was a touch tank that all the kids loved.

Lucas ended up getting pretty wet in the touch tank. The only think in the tank that the kids would reach were crabs. I was surprised that all the kids picked up the shells so fearlessly. The second the crabs were picked up they went deep in their shells and they hardly walked around in the tank... which I guess is really smart when there are several toddlers around! They also had whelks in a tank that the kids were too short to reach. I picked them up by the shell but never got brave enough to touch the slimy looking living part.

One of my favorite animals to see is always the turtle and usually it is one of Lucas' favorites too. Today however, he was a little scared of the turtle. He kept thinking the turtle was going to get him or something when the turtle would swim "at him." I kept trying to explain to him that the turtle couldn't get through the tank but he wasn't having any of that.

Behind the aquarium is a nice shaded picnic area right on the water. The kids were happy to run around and explore and have a bite to eat. I still can't believe we are almost at the end of October and it is still in the 80's!
