I <3 Boys That Wear Glasses

Today was Lucas' eye appointment after failing the test a few weeks ago at his regular pediatrician. Lucas did great even when he had to be held down and get several eye drops in his eyes. Turns out he is extremely near sighted (can see near but not far) and needs glasses. Thank goodness for technology and thin plastic they can make now because the Doctor said back in the day he would have been the kid in the coke bottle glasses.
As soon as we left the Doctor we went and let him pick out his frames and ordered his glasses. They will be here in 6-8 weeks. He goes back in 4 months to make sure the glasses are improving his vision. He says he is excited to get to wear glasses so he can look like his Daddy and his Papa. I'm a little nervous about how we are going to keep his glasses on him but the Doctor said that when kids need glasses as bad as he does it will make such a big difference in what he can suddenly see that he won't want to take them off ever. I sure hope so... she said he will suddenly go "wow those green blobs on the trees are leaves." (made me wonder if she is a Grey's fan.)

Awww, what a brave boy to endure the drops and the testing! A friend of mine once told us about how after his 7yr old son got glasses and put them on for the first time, they walked out of the doctor's office, and he said, "Dad! There's a mountain over there!" Mind you, the mountain isn't very far away at all, and all that time his son couldn't even see it! I hope Lucas does well with them, can't wait to see what he picked out.

Honestly, I totally understand that last comment. It's amazing when you can SEE things. (I'm also extremely near sighted.)

I'm curious to see if when Lucas gets his glasses that he'll see "hills" on the ground in the office like I used to. =P

I'm glad that he has role models like his Daddy and Papa who make him want to wear glasses. I'm sure if he is seeing things so much clearer he will not want to take them off. Good luck - I can't wait to see a picture of him in his new glasses

Kari, I had glasses from the time I was about 4 as well for nearsightedness. I had lasik when Kai was 1 year old. Also, a friend of mine, her son got them at about 4 as well and once they gave them to him he always wore them because he could "see" and things were no longer blurry!

He's going to be adorable in his glasses! Bummer he has to wait so long to get them.
