I <3 Boys That Wear Glasses
Today was Lucas' eye appointment after failing the test a few weeks ago at his regular pediatrician. Lucas did great even when he had to be held down and get several eye drops in his eyes. Turns out he is extremely near sighted (can see near but not far) and needs glasses. Thank goodness for technology and thin plastic they can make now because the Doctor said back in the day he would have been the kid in the coke bottle glasses.
As soon as we left the Doctor we went and let him pick out his frames and ordered his glasses. They will be here in 6-8 weeks. He goes back in 4 months to make sure the glasses are improving his vision. He says he is excited to get to wear glasses so he can look like his Daddy and his Papa. I'm a little nervous about how we are going to keep his glasses on him but the Doctor said that when kids need glasses as bad as he does it will make such a big difference in what he can suddenly see that he won't want to take them off ever. I sure hope so... she said he will suddenly go "wow those green blobs on the trees are leaves." (made me wonder if she is a Grey's fan.)

When I Grow Up....
This morning I was fooling around with iTUNES creating a new play list for my new iPOD when I realized I had an episode of the History Channel's Extreme Trains downloaded on our computer. I must have downloaded it by accident but I am sure glad I did. I turned it on and it was all about Coal Trains and Lucas was instantly hooked. He watched the WHOLE show from beginning to end while he repeated a bunch of new Train lingo. When it was all over he ran up to me (I was folding laundry) and excitedly told me, "Mommy, I want to be a Train Engineer!!!"
I know people don't always grow up to be what they dreamed of being as kids (because then I would be a bikini wearing pirate, the dream job I wrote about in first grade) but it is still fun watching him learn and be so excited about something. Besides, you never know.... Now I just have to remember to record Lucas' favorite new show every Tuesday at 10PM.

Super Why
If you have toddler or preschool age kids, chances are you know about the PBS show Super Why. (Unless you are my husband who is clueless about the show.) Lucas adores the show and is always talking about it.

The following conversation happened in our house last night:
L: Mommy I'm Alpha pig, you princess, and Daddy, you Super Why
C: Lucas that is mean and you shouldn't say things like that
Me: What in the world are you talking about. He called you a Super Hero
L: Daddy you are Super Why!
C: Where did he learn that?
Me: What are you talking about? It's from a show he watches on PBS.
C: Well maybe he shouldn't watch it.
Me: Why?
C: It's not nice to call people "Super Wide"
Lucas: Daddy you are SUPER WHY!
Me: LAUGHING HYSTERICALLY AND UNCONTROLLABLY (I eventually calmed down enough so I could explain to Curt that Super Why was a Super Hero on Lucas' favorite show and not a critique on Curt's size.

Me Too!
When Curt hurt his back a few months ago Lucas started going up to him and saying "My back hurts!" We thought it was funny and ever since when something happens to him he either exaggerates the details or if something happens to someone else it of course happened to him too.
A few weeks ago when we were at the beach and Lucas had the tiniest little cut on a finger it was "a shark bit my finger!"
Today while watching Clifford he came up to me while I was folding laundry and said "my foot hurts like Clifford's!" Then when I was doing the dishes while Lucas was watching Caillou he ran over to tell me "I'm scared! I don't want to go down the slide?"
I hope Lucas doesn't grow up to be like Penelope. :-)

MMM Soup
Lucas isn't feeling well all of a sudden. Tonight he had a touch of fever (okay I don't know how high it was... we are old school that way. Curt and I just took turns feeling Lucas' head with our wrists and then agreeing... that he most likely has a fever.) Lucas has also started this pretty bad cough. When he got up from his nap all he did was whine and scream and throw himself around until I remembered the secret weapon in my cupboard. Lucas instantly quieted down when he saw me holding a can of chicken noodle soup. He ended up eating the whole pot of soup by himself. In between bites he would look up at me to smile and say "MMMMM Soup!"

Dear Lucas (94 weeks),
Today we weren't able to go on our normal morning walk because my alarm clock didn't go off like it normally does, and by alarm clock I mean you. For the last few months you have been getting up by 8:15 AM or 8:30 if I am really lucky. You never sleep in past 8:30 anymore... not even when I wake you up at 11:30 PM because you are throwing up in your sleep and don't get you back to sleep until 2:00 AM like this past Friday... even then you were up by 8:30 AM on Saturday. I never ever set my alarm anymore because you are just that reliable, except for this morning. You woke up at 9:29 AM... one minute before we were supposed to meet everyone to go walking. Since there was no way we could get up and ready and drive to the park in 1 minute we stayed home. It was one of those stay in our PJs all day kind of days and I cleaned and did thousands of loads of laundry while you watched way too much TV (which is ironic since yesterday I was telling your Grandma just how little TV you watch.)
When I was pregnant I read all those studies about how kids under 2 should NEVER EVER watch TV and I made up my mind that you would NEVER EVER watch TV until you were at least 2 years and one day old... then I actually had a toddler and realized that along with my other "I will nevers" things change when you become actual parents. Hey, in our defense you didn't even get interested in TV until after you turned one and your cousins Steven was watching a movie and that is where your love of Veggie Tales was born. Besides normally you only watch a few minutes of Veggie Tales or Sesame Street a day. I quickly learned that it is a whole lot easier to put on makeup when you aren't trying to get to it so you can eat it!
Don't worry, we haven't screwed you up yet. You still LOVE to go outside and you would rather be outside doing anything than sitting in front of the TV. Even if we have just come in from spending all day at the park you will run to the door and ask "Mama, side?" and if I tell you not right now you will throw yourself at my feet as if I was about to put you to death and you are begging for your life. Just so you know, before you came around I liked to spend my time in air conditioned places but now because of you I get more than my share of fresh air and sunshine.
The only thing that will cheer you up when you are not allowed to go outside is if I let you "help" me do something, especially if that means cooking. I think you have helped me make at least part of our dinner for almost a week now. Mainly I give you things to pour or stir and you know to stay away from the oven because it is hot. If you see me going to put something on the stove you remind me "mama, hot!" and blow air to cool it off. You aren't a big fan of the actual cooking process though because you don't understand why you have to wait for things to cook.
To distract you while we wait for dinner to finish you've become quite the coloring connoisseur. Just a few weeks ago you had no real interest in coloring, you would scribble for 2 seconds just so we would clap our hands and cheer for you and tell you how "pretty" your picture was but that was it. Now you will sit for quite a while and color. Sometimes you will grab my hand and take me in your room and ask for "colors" and not let go of my hand until I sit down next to you and color one side of your coloring book while you color the other. When you want to color alone I set up your little desk for you and you happily sit down and get to work
Even though you start out coloring at your desk you never stay there long. You always end up taking your paper or coloring book with you and sitting down somewhere else with your book stretched across your lap and your toes peeking out from the top. Personally this doesn't look comfortable to me but it is how you seem to do your best coloring.
Another cool thing you started doing this week is matching up pairs of animals from your Noah's ark. Usually you just liked putting them in the boat and dumping them out or pitching them across the room at poor Jadie but today you started matching them together. I think you thought they were Mom and baby pairs because you would call one of them "baby" and hug it before you set it next to the matching animal.
Bugga, I love you to the moon and back,
Mommy

SAHM I am

I don't usually watch talk shows unless they are talking about something really interesting and valuable (Maury's "Who's my Baby Daddy" anyone?") I happened to see an commercial for today's Oprah show and decided to tune in. The topic of the show was "Every Mother's Dilemma" (working vs staying at home) and it was really interesting.
Growing up I never thought, "hey I want to be a Stay at home mom!" I just knew eventually I wanted to get married and possibly have a couple of kids. When I found out I was pregnant with Lucas, being a SAHM just feel into place. A few of my family members were actually surprised and just assumed that I would be a working mom. Honestly, the reason for first deciding to stay home with Lucas were all monetary. We just didn't see the point of me working to pay for daycare. I'm so glad that things worked out the way they did. I really enjoy being home with Lucas.
Anyway, Oprah got me thinking about what would happen if we had other children. Our plan is for me to go to work at least part time once Lucas starts school. I really want to have another kid and Curt is on the fence about this one. I do NOT want another kid anytime soon though. We both agreed once we have our house and our debt free then we will talk about it. This won't happen for another 3 years. Once we get our house it is quite possible I will HAVE to work to help pay the bills.
I decided today that if I wouldn't be able to stay home with child #2 the first few years then I don't think I want to have anymore kids after all. Saying this let me say I do not think there is anything wrong with being a working mom. I have a lot of respect for them and don't know how they do it! My parents were working parents and they did a wonderful job. I just know that I would feel guilty for being able to stay at home with Lucas and not with imaginary baby #2.
Honestly though, I guess it doesn't make a difference what plans I have for the future anyhow. In our original plan we weren't even going to be parents yet. We still had a year or two before we had our first child, a girl. Who knew that I would love being a "young" mom to an active little boy so much?! I'm so glad that I'm not the one in charge of the universe.

I will be putting on Makeup AND drinking an Adult Beverage Tonight!

I almost wasn't going to post tonight because I'm going to be out and about but I didn't want anyone to worry about us due to non-posting. So here it is:
Tonight is Mom's Night Out and the Season Premiere of Grey's Anatomy.
In Lucas news.... Lucas stood up today all on his own (meaning not holding onto anything or pulling himself up) He has also been standing without holding onto anything a lot more now. I'll try to get pictures soon!

The Rosie Show

I have been a fan of the View for Several years... I don't watch the show everyday and most of the time I don't even catch it once a week. My favorite part of the show was always the beginning during "Hot Topics" when the ladies would go back and forth about current events. My favorite co-host is Elisabeth because we have similar viewpoints and I found out I was pregnant while she was living out the last months of her pregnancy on TV.
The last season ended with a shake up as it was announced two of the co-hosts would not be returning. I was not a fan of Star Jones and I was glad when they axed her. I was a little surprised with the addition of Rosie because I am not personally a fan of hers. I decided to give the new season a chance and turned in during the very first episode. I was pretty quickly turned off because it seemed to be less about different view points and more of "The Rosie Show."
I decided to give the show another try today to make sure the first show wasn't that way just because it was Rosie's first day. Well todays show was even worse. Between Rosie singing out her love for Kibbler Cookies complete with Broadway backup dancers and Barbara Walters confessing that her dog talks to her that is one View I'll no longer be seeing.

Another one of Lucas' firsts... but not in a good way.

I didn't update last night because yesterday was a HARD day and all I wanted to do was watch the disk from First Season of Lost that came in the mail from Netflix yesterday, eat dinner, and go to bed.
.
Now that I have had a decent nights sleep and have been able to unwind a bit I can get back to posting. Yesterday started by finding out Lucas' insurance will be canceled at the end of the month (yeah that is less then a week away.) So now I have to fill out a bunch of paperwork and hope and pray it all gets fixed. Until it does get fixed Lucas' last day of PT or OT will be Thursday because we can not afford to pay the $2,000 a month that it costs out of our of own pocket. His Occupational therapy appointment went OK except all I could do was think about his insurance. I couldn't go try and get it straightened out since Lori was going out of town for some school thing and I had to stay with my Grandma all day.
.
I love my Grandma, but it can be VERY challenging to try and take care of her AND Lucas. Neither of them seems to understand when one of them needs attention. Trying to be in two places at once I think I've gotten a small taste of what it would be like to have two kids. I'm not so sure I'm up for the challenge. I was so frustrated at one point I put Lucas in his playpen screaming, and my Grandma inside asking me over and over "Do you love me? Why are you so mean to me?" (I made her change the channel on the TV with the remote herself instead of me doing it) I went outside to have a few minutes alone while I cried, took a deep breath, and came back inside. When I came back inside my Grandma wanted to know where I had been. I told her I had to roll up my car windows because it looked like rain.
.
When I didn't think the day could get much worse (I'm leaving out a bunch of things because then this post would be too long) grumpy little Lucas smacked me in the face for the first time. At first I was shocked and thought he was playing but then he reared his hand back and "smack" again. I held his hands and said "we do NOT hit" of course he burst into tears. I honestly think he was tired and frustrated with not having my full attention. Now of course I have to teach him that hitting is not a proper way to vent frustration.
.
A few minutes later he was crawling around in the floor towards something he shouldn't have. I picked him up to take him back to a place he could safely play and SMACK again. I had to hold his hands again while I told him "no" because he was still trying to hit me. Again he started to cry and I took his hands and showed him how to touch nicely. He put his head on my shoulder and cried and I did too. I'm really starting to think Lucas is going through his terrible twos 11 months early!

Lucas is a Hugger

I thought I would post early since I still have to make dinner and go to the Gym and all before the new Season of Prison Break Starts Tonight. I plan on having my eyes glued to the TV at 8 PM. Don't worry Lucas will be in bed by then (knock on wood) so we won't have to choose between him or the TV ;-)

We had another awesome day at Occupational therapy today. He is continuing to improve everyday. It seems like the more he is able to do physically the less he wants to sleep. He has had maybe a total of an hour of sleep today.

Now that Lucas can crawl on his hands and knees he is always switching crawling styles. He will randomly go from hands and knees to army crawl and back. It is quite funny to watch him getting around right now.

Lucas is turning out to be a hugger. He will stop playing just to crawl over to us and give us big hugs and then he is off again. I know some people aren't huggers, (but I am) so it is nice to have a child that is one.
Kevin Federline sounded how we looked

Even though Curt and I are no longer the target audience, we watched the Teen Choice awards. We tuned in only because it was K.Fed's first live Performance... and every now and then we just need a good belly laugh.
"Most predictably bad performer: Kevin Federline. Britney Spears showed up to introduce her man, waxing optimistically that “This show has been very good to me and my career over the years, so I’m hoping that it will be as good to our next performer … Please give a warm welcome to my man, Kevin Federline.” But the world’s most infamous mooch did more ball-grabbing than dancing and more weasel-like groaning than rapping during his debut. To nobody’s surprise, he failed to look like a gangster while playing the intro to his single, “Lose Control,” on a grand piano while a much more talented MC handled the opening vocals. As the song went on, it became painfully apparent K-Fed is, indeed, as untalented as originally thought, although his back-up MC, whose microphone also happened to be twice as loud, should be signed any day because he has some mad chops."

Just Checking In
Nothing too exciting has been going on lately, just the normal day to day things of washing clothes, doing things in Lucas' nursery, and washing dishes. I am excited I have auctions ending tonight! I have also found the most comfy pants ever! They are terry cloth pants from Old Navy and they are so nice! (Curt says it is because they are actually maternity pants, I responded by maturing sticking out my tongue.)
Yesterday Lucas was kicking me in the ribs all day (not a fun feeling) It didn't hurt but I think it will get old fast! I read up on it and it said his feet can actually stay under one side of my rib cage as he grows and runs out of room.
I am getting so impatient with him. I want to meet him now! I watch THE VIEW sometimes on ABC and one of the girls I just adore Elizabeth just had her baby and they checked in on her and her baby and it was the cutest thing... I just cried. I hope I don't start getting all emotional this last trimester. If so Curt is in for once wild ride.
Well I am about to go to the grocery store and buy some milk (I drank the last gallon all by myself in a 24 hour period) and I think I am going to get something to bake... well at least to eat the dough... lol thanks Brandi, it is your fault after that whole conversation about food last night.
This is what I am making for dinner tonight:
Mexican Skillet Casserole
1 lb. ground beef
1 small onion, chopped
1 (14 1/2 oz.) can tomatoes--undrained, chopped
1 (15 oz.) can Ranch-style beans 1/2 cup uncooked regular long-grain rice
2 Tbsp. chili powder
Salt, pepper&garlic powder--to taste
1 cup water 1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
In large skillet, brown ground beef and onion till meat is brown and onion is tender; drain. Add tomatoes, beans, rice, seasonings, and water. Cover, bring to a boil; reduce heat. Simmer 20 to 25 minutes, or until rice is tender, stirring occasionally. Top with shredded cheese. Cook another 5 minutes, or until cheese melts. Serves 4
My Mood : Lazy Now
Playing : watching STARTING OVER to see if they are going to kick Tess off.

I had a great Day Today
So I feel like I got something accomplished today! I planned out the menu for the week, went grocery shopping, came home and cleaned out the whole fridge and took out the shelves and drawers and washed them. It was not a pretty sight! I cleaned out two garbage bags full of old nasty food and drinks from the freezer and fridge. Gross I know.
Then I had dinner ready when Curt got home. I felt like a good wife. LOL Even though our house is still far from neat, the whole picking a few things to focus on is working out! Also I plan on having a talk with Curt about what we both expect as far as the house goes. ( Yeah we have been married for 3 1/2 years but we have never really discussed it) Most of our fights are not about money, but about cleaning.
If you haven't realized it by now I will randomly jump around from subject to subject. Dinner was nice but Sam and Steven didn't come. The smoke wasn't that bad, everyone is sweet about it and tries to keep it away from me without me even having to ask.
Poor Lisa is sick and I hope I don't catch it!
Oh one last thing, *PREGNANCY TOPIC WARNING* I cry at every commercial or show with a parent and their kid. Oh especially at the new hallmark commercial when the boy asks his mom if she has any "Sorry" cards... because he shaved his brothers hair. I can kill a box of Kleenexes watching Baby Story or Starting Over... Oh and Oprah today with the Tsunami stories had me balling!
Man when you are pregnant your boobs take on a life of their own! They are like you borrowed them from a stripper or something! They get bigger and the nipples get more sensitive. Last night it was kind of cold and I was watching Desperate Housewives (which I LOVE!) and it was cold in the living room but I had to see the end. By the time it was over my nipples were so cold I was literally crying in pain. My poor husband prob expected that someone died or I was bleeding the way I was carrying on. It seriously hurt so bad! I imagine that is how it feels when you great breast surgery. On that note I am going to go. Medium is almost on, and we watch that every Monday.
