Trips
During my senior year at AASU I went to Trinidad as part of a short Study Abroad program. That trip really changed my outlook on life and death. The very first day that we were there we happened to run across a Hindu funeral on the edge of a waterfront. We wanted to be respectful and not disturb the ceremony but were quickly told that we were welcome.
Hindus generally cremate their dead, so everyone was standing around a pyre. We found it odd that nobody was crying or seemed sad. There was even a processional of men chanting and playing drums. Someone quickly explained that they cry at birth because "your suffering has started" and celebrate your death because "your suffering is over." After cremation the ashes were collected and scattered in the water. I just think no matter what your religious beliefs that this is a really neat way to look at the circle of life.

To me, this was totally random but - wow - what a neat way to look at things. I wonder how we ended up looking at things the other way? Maybe we're just a more selfish culture *shrug*
I've always wanted to be cremated and just thrown on Tybee, but Ted thinks the kids should be able to visit their mother's grave so I guess he has made me change my mind.
What an amazing fact! I wish I could see things that way, but I am terrified of dying.
sorry for the randomness... my friend Brandi suggested that whoever wanted to could all write about the same topics on the same day. (the link to trips will take you to her blog) or it is "Sunday Morning" under my links section
