Dear Lucas (83 weeks),

Today I cried for the first time in a long time. We were in the car and I realized I was on the way to get your first hair cut. It is just one more of those milestones that proves you are growing up. I kept telling you "Lucas, we are going to go get your haircut" and you would put your hand to your head and feel your hair.
When we got to the parking lot you were very excited to be walking and not in a stroller or sitting in a buggy. You were walking like a big kid and you were very excited to see where our walk was going to take us. When we got to the hair salon you were just looking around everywhere and we sat and waited for your turn. You sat in the chair like such a big kid but you weren't quite sure what was going on.
It is really neat that your very first hair cut was done by your Aunt Sam. You sat still and let her cut your hair until you started to notice clumps of hair falling onto the cap. Just as Sam commented on how still you were sitting, you realized your hands were trapped and you couldn't touch the hairs falling all around you. We freed one of your hands and you felt your newly cut curls between your fingers. Pretty soon you were bored of sitting so I ended up having to hold you on my lap so Sam could finish your haircut.
Your Aunt Sam did a great job and I was amazed how much you wiggled and how great she was at moving with you. You gave her a workout for sure! When it was all over you reached up for her and gave her a hug and cuddled up to her. She told you that you did a great job and that we should get you a toy for being so good.
We ended up walking around the store for a little bit just to have a little fun. I love having a little shopping buddy. You make everything so much fun.
You were very excited to see the "fiSHHH" and if there had been someone working in that department we might have went home with a goldfish or something. I'm glad there wasn't anyone in that department because I can only imagine what that poor "fiSHHH's" life would be like at our house. Maybe we'll get a "fiSHHH" when you are a little older. We ended up getting you a pair of sunglasses and a brand new battery operated tooth brush. I thought you loved brushing your teeth before but now you are crazy about it. You brushed your teeth and tongue all the way to your Grandparents' house.
The Grandmas were very excited to see you. One of your newest words is "pa pa" which you whisper, and it means Grandpa and Grandma. You are blessed with lots of pa pa's.
You kept going to the doors and windows and asking to go "ot" ("out" but almost Canadian sounding) and finally your Grandma felt sorry for you and took you outside. She even got on the trampoline and jumped with you. You were laughing so hard and both of you have the biggest smiles. I hope one day you realize just how blessed you are that you have so many loving Grandparents and that most of them live nearby. I hope that one day (in the VERY DISTANT future) that I am the kind of Grandma that remembers to bring crayons and a coloring book to keep you entertained at a restaurant or that takes you outside to play or kidnaps my Grand kids so I can give you and your wife a break to eat with two hands.
When we got home you went up to your Daddy to show him your new hairdo. He said he liked it but he really missed your curls. I of course didn't miss the opportunity to point out he was the main one that wanted you to get a haircut. You just look so grown up now. Knock that off!
Bugga, I love you to the moon and back,
Mama
