Hairs the Thing

Cut has been threatening to shave Lucas' hair off again so I decided to take him Monday for a proper hair cut. The only person (besides Curt) that has ever cut Lucas' hair is his Aunt Sam and I felt like we were cheating on her by going some where else but I didn't feel like driving across town. The ironic thing though is we ended up having to wait an hour for our turn. Luckily, Lucas had asked to bring his Leapster with us, so he did great during the wait.

He also did really awesome sitting still in the chair even though he kept getting hairs tickling his nose, eyes, and mouth.

I didn't realize it but he never looked at himself in the mirror at the Salon with his glasses on so when we got home and he saw himself in a mirror he FREAKED. He was so mad at me for letting the lady cut off all his curls and he dramatically lamented, "Oh no, now I am bald!"

Happy Medium

Lucas' Aunt Sam finally convinced him to let her trim his hair. She told him he could still keep his curls but get rid of what he calls his "crazy hair" without having to be scalped. Sam was also the one that gave Lucas his very first hair cut.

Bald & Beautiful

Today my friend Priscilla shaved her head to raise money for childhood cancer research. I am so proud to be able to call her my friend. She helped raise over $600 in less than two days! She was even interviewed by the local news.

The Summer 8 Years Ago

The summer after I graduated high school I went to Jacksonville, FL to visit Katie. She thought it would be hilarious to have my picture taken next to one of Jax's finest. This was also back before I stopped dying my hair. Now when I run into anyone from high school they think I dye my hair brown. They don't believe my that my hair now is my natural color.

Locks of Love

Yesterday I chopped all my hair off (13 inches) to donate to Locks of Love. I love my new shorter "do" I just need to figure how to style it on my own and make it as cute as my Sister-in-Law did when she cut it!

HELP I need a NEW Hairstyle

I am LONG over due for a haircut but I've been putting it off FOREVER because I'm not sure what would look best on me. One of my sister-in-laws is a stylist but I ALWAYS FORGET to ask her what she thinks. Right now I just really want a change and my hair is so long and such a pain all I do with it is put it back, so here are some pictures showing how long it has gotten.
I am not against getting bangs or going short (I would be even willing to cut off 10 inches or more to donate it to Locks of Love)
Any suggestions you can give me would be GREATLY APPRECIATED. Also the shorter my hair gets the curler it gets so it does make certain styles almost impossible for me to get.

Curt Scalped Our Kid

Curt has been mentioning that Lucas needs a haircut for some time now. He has joked a few times about doing it himself to save money but I never took him seriously. Then tonight before I knew it he took a big chunk out of Lucas' hair. There was no turning back so I just took pictures while I shook my head disapprovingly.

I thought Lucas would have flipped out with the sound of buzzers on his head but he could care less. All he wanted to do was pick up his hair and then throw it up in the air. I think he must have been carrying all his weight in his curls because as he hair came off in chunks he started to look smaller and smaller.
His hair ended up a lot shorter than I ever wanted it to to be. When Curt was done he said "Hmm, maybe we should take him to get his hair cut by a professional from now on." I'm not mad about the haircut, I'm just sad to see the curls go, especially since his birthday is in a few weeks and I would have loved for him to have still been curly headed in his pictures.

Dear Lucas (83 weeks),

Today I cried for the first time in a long time. We were in the car and I realized I was on the way to get your first hair cut. It is just one more of those milestones that proves you are growing up. I kept telling you "Lucas, we are going to go get your haircut" and you would put your hand to your head and feel your hair.
When we got to the parking lot you were very excited to be walking and not in a stroller or sitting in a buggy. You were walking like a big kid and you were very excited to see where our walk was going to take us. When we got to the hair salon you were just looking around everywhere and we sat and waited for your turn. You sat in the chair like such a big kid but you weren't quite sure what was going on.
It is really neat that your very first hair cut was done by your Aunt Sam. You sat still and let her cut your hair until you started to notice clumps of hair falling onto the cap. Just as Sam commented on how still you were sitting, you realized your hands were trapped and you couldn't touch the hairs falling all around you. We freed one of your hands and you felt your newly cut curls between your fingers. Pretty soon you were bored of sitting so I ended up having to hold you on my lap so Sam could finish your haircut.
Your Aunt Sam did a great job and I was amazed how much you wiggled and how great she was at moving with you. You gave her a workout for sure! When it was all over you reached up for her and gave her a hug and cuddled up to her. She told you that you did a great job and that we should get you a toy for being so good.
We ended up walking around the store for a little bit just to have a little fun. I love having a little shopping buddy. You make everything so much fun.
You were very excited to see the "fiSHHH" and if there had been someone working in that department we might have went home with a goldfish or something. I'm glad there wasn't anyone in that department because I can only imagine what that poor "fiSHHH's" life would be like at our house. Maybe we'll get a "fiSHHH" when you are a little older. We ended up getting you a pair of sunglasses and a brand new battery operated tooth brush. I thought you loved brushing your teeth before but now you are crazy about it. You brushed your teeth and tongue all the way to your Grandparents' house.
The Grandmas were very excited to see you. One of your newest words is "pa pa" which you whisper, and it means Grandpa and Grandma. You are blessed with lots of pa pa's.
You kept going to the doors and windows and asking to go "ot" ("out" but almost Canadian sounding) and finally your Grandma felt sorry for you and took you outside. She even got on the trampoline and jumped with you. You were laughing so hard and both of you have the biggest smiles. I hope one day you realize just how blessed you are that you have so many loving Grandparents and that most of them live nearby. I hope that one day (in the VERY DISTANT future) that I am the kind of Grandma that remembers to bring crayons and a coloring book to keep you entertained at a restaurant or that takes you outside to play or kidnaps my Grand kids so I can give you and your wife a break to eat with two hands.
When we got home you went up to your Daddy to show him your new hairdo. He said he liked it but he really missed your curls. I of course didn't miss the opportunity to point out he was the main one that wanted you to get a haircut. You just look so grown up now. Knock that off!
Bugga, I love you to the moon and back,
Mama

The Return of the Crazy Hair

Nothing too exciting going on. Lucas and I have colds so the highlight of our day was getting out of the house to go buy orange juice.

Now I Know Why I Can Never Find a Pen...

Lucas must keep them in his secret stash. There is no other way to explain why there doesn't seen to be a pen in this whole house but he mysteriously comes out of him room with blue pen ink on his cheek.

Also, I'm glad that Lucas is starting to grow hair but I'm not sure how I feel about the baby mullet that seems to be forming on his head.

I didn't get any pictures of Lucas standing up today but my Mom did get to see him stand up in the middle of her bed which was pretty cool.
