Today you turned 23 months old! I know your birthday is next month but it really didn't sink in until today. Every time I have thought about you turning two today I just want to cry. You are growing up so fast. You have gone from little baby to little boy in what seems over night. I catch myself calling you "Baby" instead of Lucas all the time and I am trying to correct that. This morning when you were done with your bath you asked for a "chowel." We've started giving you hand towels instead of the baby hooded towels because you like to wrap them around your waist just like Mommy and Daddy do... of course you still like to drop the towel halfway down the hall and streak through the house naked.
Today we had a last minute get together with some of our friends who are in the military and are moving to Italy tomorrow. Most of the little kids that were there were girls and when they were playing dress up you wanted to play too. I love that you are still too innocent to know that little boys aren't supposed to wear dresses. Hey, at least you only wanted to wear the blue skirt and I now have more pictures to add to the "pull out in front of Lucas' friends" album.
We were so surprised when we tried to get a picture of all of the kids on the couch that you guys all cooperated. I hope that you are still friends with some of your playgroup friends when you graduate high school. Growing up as an army brat I was always jealous of those kids that had known each other before kindergarten even started. I am very thankful of getting to live all over the world but at the same time I am so glad that you get to live in a city where all your Grandparents (and most of your Great-Grandparents), aunts, uncles, and cousins live. It's also neat getting to take you to places that I went to as a kid.
Tonight we took your Grandma Andrea out to dinner and you had so much fun showing off your jumping skills. You are so proud that you now leave the ground when you jump. Every time the waitress would fill up our water glass you would say "thank you" all on your own. She thought you were so cute that she kept bringing you fortune cookies (which you had no interest in eating.) I think we ended up leaving with at least 2o fortune cookies in your diaper bag.
Right as we were getting ready to leave you noticed the giant globe across the street. You were just standing there looking at the big "ball" when all of a sudden you just took off and ran across the parking lot. I ran after you and snatched you up and LOUDLY yelled "NO SIT! You do NOT run into the road" and you started to cry. This is the first time ever that I have been able to scare you with my voice and I am so glad I did. As we quickly walked back to the sidewalk I explained that the cars drive on the road and they will hurt you. Just then a car drove by and you pointed to it and said "Car, Hurt!" I really hope you got the message. I don't know what your Daddy and I would do if anything ever happened to you!
Bugga, I love you to the moon and back!
Mommy
