Under the Knife

We arrived at St.Joseph's hospital a little after 6AM this morning. Pretty soon after arriving Curt was taken back and given a bed and a gown and and IV. Then we just had to wait for his turn for surgery since he was the second one of the day. For those that do not know he had surgery to open and repair his urethra.

Curt was in good spirits even though he was scared to death. On the way to the hospital he held my hand with a death grip the whole way. He kept telling me how much he loved me over and over. While we were waiting in his day surgery room the Today Show was on and one of the segments was about planning your funeral and we just had a good laugh.

A little before 10AM Curt was taken back for surgery. The procedure took less than an hour and everything went great. All the nurses were so friendly. We even ended up knowing one of the nurses. Turns out that my friend Shannon, who I've known since 4th grade, was doing her student nursing today in day surgery (that's her in the white, looking while they wheel Curt past her to go to surgery.)

Curt was released at 1PM and we went to lunch with his Mom. He was STARVING since he hadn't eaten anything since 6PM the following day. After eating we picked up Lucas and headed home. We are so blessed with the best friends and family! Curt's mom stayed at the hospital the whole time and my mom watched Lucas for us. All day long we had calls, emails, and texts from friends making sure everything was okay and asking if we needed anything. Curt is taking it easy at home and has to have a catheter in for 2 weeks. When Lucas saw Curt's "boo boo" and catheter he said "WOW! I wish I could hurt my penis too! That is so cool!"
Also, for anyone who missed it you can also read the play by play that I kept via text messages on my twitter page here. It really made it easy to keep everyone updated all at once. I love technology!
