Lucas at Bat

Today was Lucas' first tee ball practice. He got off to a rocky start. He was one of the first ones to bat and round the bases and he started crying when the other boys were trying to tag him out.... because they did not have the ball. He kept going and finished up with tears down his cheeks. He is really good at batting and throwing but needs to work on sportsmanship. By the end of practice he got the hang of tee ball and wasn't getting mad when he couldn't get the ball EVERY TIME. The couch handed out jerseys at the end of practice and Lucas was VERY excited to find out that he is #4, his current favorite number.

Joseph Walking 9-3-09

Last week my sister and my nephew stopped by while I was taking care of my Grandma. Joseph just randomly started taking a few steps. He was walking like a pro so I thought he was showing off an "old trick" but Lori said he had never done that before. We them of course attempted to get him to repeat his new feat with his feet.

Magic Kingdom

This time last week Lucas and I were at the Magic Kingdom in Disney World. He was so excited to be there and so well behaved. Every day since we have been home he has either begged to go back or told me that he misses Mickey. He says he wants to go back soon, but next time he wants us to take his Dad with us. Sounds good to me! We got to the park a few minutes before they opened and saw the Welcoming show.
We were able to ride several things with no wait the first hour we were there. Then we went straight to meet Mickey Mouse with barely any wait (thanks for the tip Becky)

Lucas also got the autographs of a few more Disney friends. We rode a few more rides and caught a show in front of the castle. We also watched a parade before we headed back to our hotel room to rest for a few hours (since The Magic Kingdom was open until 3AM!!)

One of the first things we did when we got to the Magic Kingdom in the morning was get Lucas a birthday button. I guess it got so hot that his name rubbed off and when we were walking through the resort to catch our bus back to the Magic Kingdom, one of the employees suggested we go to the front desk to get his name rewritten. They ended up giving him a brand new button. He was so proud of it and enjoyed everyone wishing him Happy Birthday. When everyone anyone asked if he that specific day was his birthday he would say "I'm celebrating 4!"
When we got back to the park we rode a few more rides and watched some amazing fireworks.

One of the last things we did was visit Pooh's Playful spot and Lucas had so much fun running free with other kids and getting wet in the fountains. Luckily I remembered to bring extra clothes. However, I didn't have extra shoes so I used that chance to put Lucas back in the stroller and start wrapping up our Magical day.

On the way out of the park we stopped to let Lucas pick out a pair of ears and got a quick snack before catching the bus back to our resort. I think we were in our room about 2AM.

The whole day was a lot of fun and we pretty much rode every ride in the park that Lucas was big enough for and usually with little to no wait at all. I think the most we ever waited in line was 20 minutes. My only complaint the whole day was how hot it was, but then it was the middle of July. I lost track of how much water we drank but Lucas did AWESOME with letting me know when he had to go to the bathroom. The day couldn't have been more perfect.

Our Little Fish

This past weekend we spent in St.Simons Island for a family reunion. Lucas spent every possible minute he could in the pool. He used to HATE to get his head wet until we got him a pair of goggles. (He had to have ones like his big cousins Shane and Colby.) Well this weekend he started going under water with them on and looking around and then staying underwater to show off for Joseph, his baby cousin.
Then he started asking to hold on to our hands so he could kick himself around the pool. We kept telling him that if he would let go of our fingers then he would be swimming all by himself. He said he wasn't ready for that so we didn't push. We left Sunday and headed home.
We had a playgroup pool meetup today and Lucas just jumped right in the pool and starting swimming around. He didn't even realize what he was doing at first. I had to tell him he was swimming all by himself one of the times he popped up for air. He was so tickled and proud of himself.
Joseph was also at the meetup today and when he saw his big cousin swimming by he started making the sign for fish with his hands.

Caterpillar Chat

Lucas found a furry new friend as we were heading out the door this morning. We were supposed to be running Curt his wallet, that he had forgotten. He only lives about five minutes from our house and called to see where we were after we didn't show right up. I had to explain to him that first we had to fight over which shoes to wear and then Lucas had to stop to chat with a caterpillar.

(Why do boys always seem to end up with the best eyelashes? NOT FAIR!)

Daniel Snuggled with Lions

Today at church, Lucas learned about Daniel being thrown in the lions den. On the way home I asked him to tell me about this Daniel guy and he got really excited. He explained, "Daniel was brave. Some people didn't like him and they were mean. They put him with lions. He snuggled with them. These lions were like teddy bears!" Then he started reciting his bible verse from Joshua 1:9. It's the first verse that I've heard him recite so I had to get it on video.

Santa Stopped at Our House...

and everything he brought Lucas had something to do with a train.

Lucas was so excited it took him a while to take it all in.

He was so excited for to see the table and a few new trains that he didn't even notice the books and his stocking for 10 minutes.

Our 4th Annual Christmas Lights Adventure

Tonight Lucas and I set out to make our annual trip to see Christmas lights on Gordonston Avenue. On the way there Lucas feel asleep and I had the HARDEST time waking him up. He woke up grumpy and hungry. I got him a cup of hot chocolate (he said it was too hot, it wasn't) and then he got in line to sit on Santa's lap. He wouldn't even look at Santa. So Santa asked if he was scared of him, and Lucas shook his head "no" then he asked if he was just tired and grumpy and Lucas shook his head "yes."
Determined NOT to let that grumpiness ruin our plans we got back in the car and went down the block to McDonald's. Lucas gulped down some food and we went back and he was a brand new kid.
He was so excited to see the lights and then he ran into his friends Maddie and Jack. In the middle of running around with his friends he discovered his favorite decoration ever... a giant train made out of Christmas lights.
Lucas would leave the train for a minute or two to look at the other decorations but would always return back to the train where he spent most of the night. He ended up calling the train his train and he would told me he was the "ductor." He would stand behind the train display and yell "all aboard" and get so excited when other kids would walk up. He even pretended to give them tickets and would get so excited when some of the kids would stand with him and "ride" the train with him.
Lucas was having such an amazing time that even after an staying for over an hour I had a hard time convincing him it was time to go home. By that time his hands were ice cold and his nose was bright red. I finally talked him into leaving the train to go donate money to the Salvation Army and visit Santa again.
This time he talked to Santa and actually responded when Santa asked what he wanted for Christmas... and did he say anything to do with trains?!?! NO! He said he wanted a motorcycle... because that's what the big kid in front of him told Santa that he wanted. He gave Santa a big hug and then agreed to go to the car when I asked if he wanted to go with me to the store to get a Christmas present for his Daddy. After getting lost downtown for a while we ended up making it to the store and getting home a little before 11!!!!
