School Spirit, Not so Much

On Wednesday, Lucas got sent home a note from school stating that Friday (today) would be school spirit day and that "Students may participate by wearing regular uniform bottoms paired with a school colored or bulldog t-shirt." (His school mascot is a bulldog.) I didn't know if they meant that the shirt had to be a plain colored school colored shirt or if it could have a graphic on it but be okay as long as the shirt was red. So, to be safe I decided to get Lucas a shirt with a bulldog on it.

Thursday after I helped take care of my Grandma I stopped by Target on the way home. I was hoping to find a UGA shirt with a bulldog on it, because I thought with football season it would be easy to find. I ended up finding a shirt with a dog on it that I thought looked like a bulldog. When I got home I started thinking that maybe that wasn't a bulldog on the shirt and didn't want Lucas to get in trouble for not really wearing a bulldog shirt. So late Thursday night I ended up making a late night run for Wal-Mart to find a bulldog shirt. Again I looked for a UGA shirt but couldn't find one. I was so excited to see a cute shirt in the kids section that had a cute bulldog on it and even said "BULLDOGS" across it and had a cute picture of a bulldog wearing a red shirt. I was so happy because I thought I had bought the perfect shirt!

This morning Lucas did NOT want to go to school. He was up watching cartoons and playing trains before our alarm even went off. I got him to eat breakfast, brush his teeth, and get dressed without a fight. Then I showed him his special Spirit day shirt and he actually got a little excited... until I made him walk out the door to the car. He kept saying he wanted to stay home and play with his toys. When we got to the school he was crying for me to please take him home. When I unbuckled his car seat he bucked it back up. A teacher came to our car to help Lucas out of the car (not knowing I was having trouble getting him out) and then started to try and convince him about all the fun he would have (he wasn't buying what she was selling.) Then his Teachers Assistant walked up and it took the three of us to pry him out of the car. All the while he is screaming that he doesn't want to go to school and he doesn't want me to leave him. The T.A. had to carry him off to class. I drove away crying.

Thirty minutes after I dropped Lucas off at school I got a phone call from a number I didn't recognize. I was almost completely to my Mom's house to take care of my Grandma again. I just knew it was the school telling me Lucas was still upset or something. Turns out it was Lucas' teacher. She asked to speak to me then told me that Lucas was out of uniform. I explained to her that the letter sent home said a school colored shirt OR one with a bulldog. She asked me to hold and put on the other Kindergarten teacher on the phone. Again I explained to her that according to the letter he was wearing a bulldog shirt like the letter stated he could. She very nicely told me that the letter should have been clearer and stated that the bulldog shirt had to be school colors and that Lucas would have to change clothes. I told her I understood, that he had the spare uniform at school that he was required to have, and the phone call ended.

When I got off the phone I was so angry, not at the teachers (they were nice and just doing their jobs) but that the letter wasn't clear. We are new to the school so how are we supposed to know what the letter means. I can only go by what it SAYS! The letter says a school colored shirt OR a bulldog shirt. It did not say a plain school colored shirt OR a school colored shirt with a bulldog. I was also angry that my kid that didn't even WANT to go to school had to change shirts because of an unclear letter. Then on top of that I was a little annoyed that the 2 teachers that saw him in the carpool lane, while I was STILL at the school didn't say anything about his shirt breaking the dress code, although to be fair I guess that they might not have noticed since they were trying to extract my child from the car at the time.

When I picked Lucas up from school in the afternoon he was wearing his red polo uniform shirt and his teacher said he was doing awesome in class. She said the only problem she was having with him though is that he is spitting. She explained he wasn't trying to spit at other kids, or doing it to cause trouble or interrupt the class, but doing it to entertain himself, but it was bothering the other kids and if we could please talk to him. The second she walked away from the car Lucas started to bawl and say "I'm a bad kid, I'm doing bad in school. I don't want to go back." I'm NOT looking forward to next week, and I have a feeling neither is Lucas.

Oh, and the icing on the cake... when I checked his backpack when he got home, the offending shirt wasn't even in the bag. I am going to be pretty annoyed if it got sent home with another child or lost some other way.

In my never ending quest to keep Lucas entertained I finally decided to try making a picture grocery list. (No, the first picture is NOT an orange, it is a tortilla.) Lucas was quite intrigued by carrying a list around the grocery store to find the food he was supposed to put in his cart. It made it into a kind of grocery store scavenger hunt. I made sure to also hand him a pen so he could cross off each item as he put it in his cart. After all, what good is a list if you can't have the satisfaction of crossing things off?

Usually I try to go grocery shopping alone, but sometimes that just isn't possible. Today, happened to be one of those times.

Lucas "I want to ride in the car buggy" (the buggies that have a giant car on the front that make normal shopping more challenging because you have to try to maneuver the cart down the already crowded aisle.)
Me: "You never want to stay in the car, let's get a normal buggy."
Lucas: "I want a car. PWEASE! I'll stay in it!"
Me: You PROMISE that you will ride in the car the ENTIRE time and not want to get out?
Lucas: "I pwomise. I want the blue one!"

2 minutes later

Lucas: "I want to get out!"
Me: "NO!"
Lucas: "PWEASE!"
Me: "No! You promised that you would sit in the car the entire time."
Lucas: "I want the other buggy"
Me: "No, we are almost done"
Lucas: "YOU BROKE MY HEART"
Me: "How did I break your heart?"
Lucas: "You made me stay in the car like I promised!!!"

Lucas: "I want to go to Chuck E. Cheese"
Me: "We'll talk to Daddy about it"
Lucas: "No, he won't take me. You take me!"
Me: "How about when you are potty trained then we can go have a party there with pizza and games."
Lucas: "I know! You potty train me AT Chuck. E. Cheese"

First Post of 2009

It is a new year and I'm another year older (at least according to some people.) I had a really nice laid back birthday. It started a little after midnight when I met my friend Priscilla for coffee. Since I went to bed so late Curt let me sleep in and he got up with Lucas. Curt and Lucas baked me cupcakes and then we were off to my parents house for lunch.

I love when my whole family gets together so I couldn't think of a better way then spending my birthday with my parents, my Grandma, my siblings, and my nephews. We just ate lunch, had cake, and hung out for a few hours. Then when my sister's husband got off work we left our kids with Grandma and Papa and we went out to dinner with out any crying babies or crazy toddlers and that was very nice too.

Friday even though my birthday was over I still got the birthday girl treatment. Curt let me sleep in again and then we just laid around the house all day in our PJ's. I did actually cook a meal and we had our collard greens, cornbread, and black eyed peas (along with ham and mac & cheese.)

Around 5PM I started to get a little bored of staying in my pajamas and headed to BOTH malls alone! I love shopping by myself for myself! I had 2 gift certificates to stores from the stores for my birthday and I ended up going home with 4 shirts and a pair of earrings for $1.12!!! Just when I thought the day couldn't possibly get any better my friend Katie called me and told me she wanted to take me out to dinner. I went home to take a shower and change and then I was off again for dinner, drinks, and dessert.

This morning Lucas decided to sleep in so for the third day in the row I got to sleep in and it was NICE! We spent the day just hanging out at home. I got some cleaning done and Lucas spent quite a bit of time in his Sandbox (the one that only took me 6 months to fill up with sand.) Then we made dinner together, bathed Lucas, read stories, and off to bed he went without any struggle. Not a bad way to kick off a new year.

Christmas Shopping

I've been picking up little things for Lucas for Christmas here and there for the last few months. We are pretty much done shopping for his gifts except for his big gift (a Scooter and Helmet) and a few books.

Here are he gifts so far (and I've gotten all of them pretty much on SUPER clearance):

• Art box: filling it with water color set, kids safety scissors, and a small art pad. He'll still have enough room to put in his crayons and markers he already owns.
• Number Flash Cards- They just have pictures of different things on the cards for the kids to count. I know Lucas will LOVE these. He'll turn it into a game.
• Incredible Hulk T-Shirt (he's really into the Hulk and it was on clearance for $1)
• Dress Up Clothes to Add to his box (pirate hat, Superman PJs, Train Costume)
• Kid's 17 piece Baking Set (comes with real baking sheets and utensils that are kid sized)
• Play-mat for one of Lucas' Train Sets
• Train Station Sticker Activity Book
• Train for Lucas' Train Set
• Buzz Lightyear etch-a-sketch

I've only spent around $30 so far.

Who's Child is That?

Today our playgroup met up at Daffin park. Lucas (and most of the other kids) were more into splashing in the water fountain than they were into playing on the playground. Lucas might has well have just been sitting in the fountain with how wet he ended up getting.

He ended up getting so wet I started asking everyone who's child he was because he certainly wasn't mine. I would NEVER let my kid get that wet in public from a dirty fountain and in his "good clothes!"

Lucas and I are always the last ones to leave at almost every playgroup so when all of his partners in crime left the park I decided to change his clothes so he would be clean and dry. Two other kids from our group were still there as well and neither of them had any interest in getting wet so I figured Lucas would just want to play with them and he would stay dry. Normally he loves to follow big kids around, but not today. Since there wasn't anyone to play with in the fountain he decided it would be even more fun if he laid down on his stomach in the muddy water at the bottom of the fountain and then so he would be wet on his backside too he rolled over. At that point I just let him play in the water because he was happy and I was able to catch up with my friends while we all laughed at my wet little boy.

Lucky for me I had a dry onsie in the diaper bag for some reason and was able to leave the park with Lucas in dry clothes which was good because I had to stop by the mall on the way home to get a baby shower gift. Since Lucas' shoes and socks were socking wet all he wore in the mall was the onsie. I'm sure people thought "what a cute little redneck baby" when they saw us. We ended up finding a cute gift in Old Navy and the cashier remembered us from last week. She said it was because of Lucas bright blue eyes but as we walked out I remembered I was wearing the EXACT same outfit today that I was wearing when I was in Old Navy last week. On the way home Lucas fell asleep in the middle of "coloring." That off brand magna-doodle is seriously the best $0.88 that I ever that the Easter Bunny ever spent.

Summer Clothes

Today I got Lucas a few Summer clothes for SUPER CHEAP. Macy's was having a big sale and everything I bought was well under $3.00 each.

The Christmas Toys

I am so excited! I officially started my Christmas shopping tonight. I can't wait to see presents under our tree. We decided we would spend under $100 on Lucas for Christmas and so far I have spent about $50 getting him his kitchen ($30 with free shipping), vacuum ($5), Mr. Potato Head Spud Buds ($10) and Wheel Pals Triple Track Tower ($4.57 after gift cards I earned online taking surveys.)

I just want to get him a book or two to add to his library and some play food (Target has little sets for $1.00 right now) and maybe a Christmas outfit then I am done shopping for him. I also need to start trying to take a decent picture of Lucas for our Christmas cards.

Attention Bargin Shoppers

I guess I am turning into quite a mallrat since this is the second day in a row that Lucas and I have gone to the mall. My friend Katie wanted to go get a sweater at Charlotte Russe (which she didn't get) and I decided to go to Old Navy to see if the items I wanted yesterday were still there. (I didn't buy them yesterday because I knew I had a 20% off coupon at home and the lines were SUPER long and I had to pee.

Thank goodness for small bladders. I ended up getting 2 pairs of PJs for Lucas (that he really needed) for $3.20 each and the adorable horse T-shirt for $0.78!!!! I don't know why finding a good deal feels like such a big accomplishment. Maybe it is because I come from a long line of proud thrifties. (Although I probably spent more in gas on the return trip then the $1.80 I saved with my coupon)

I took a "Me" Day

Well, I guess I jinxed myself by declaring my morning sickness appeared to be gone. Nope! I threw up this morning as soon as I woke up (just like I have been doing) so I messed around the house for about 3 hours, got dressed, got in the car to go to Bluffton, SC to do some shopping and I just started to gag, thank goodness I had an empty plastic cup in one of my cup holders! (Sorry to gross anyone out!) It could have been nasty. It's not like I am puking up food, its just usually spit. It still stinks, I feel like a cat in a constant state of hacking up hairballs! Okay Okay enough about that!

So I was on my way and went to Goody's, Target, and Old Navy (All stores we have in Savannah, but the ones in Bluffton have much better deals!). At Goody's I got some good Ebay deals to sell, Target I bought some cute clearance undies, and birthday presents for my niece Kaliegh and 2 nephews. (Even though their birthday's aren't for a while), but everything was on clearance so I couldn't resist. Then at Old Navy there were more clearance clothes to sell on Ebay... plus I got the cutest "Baby's First Christmas" outfit (a onsie, booties, bib, and hat) all for less than $2.00! If for some reason our Baby can't wear it there is always Ebay!

Ya'll just don't know how many baby clothes I have bought so far and people have bought me and we won't know the sex for about 6 more weeks (and yep the clothes are all pink!) Also I love the Bluffton Old Navy because unlike ours it sells Maternity, and Women's Plus size clothes (all of which sell great on Ebay)!

Tonight we are having unhealthy, yummy, cheesey nachos for dinner. Thinking about Katie made me think about making nachos, (i know random) because she always wanted me to make them. They are quite good also I might add.

Yesterday I talked to my friend Jenn who I haven't talked to in a LONG TIME of course it was online but it was still nice. Jenn, Jack, and I used to be like the three amigos and they both live in PA now and I never hear from them! We had some crazy times! Jenn was a good gal pal also. Well my hubby Curt just got home and I think I should get off because he walked in and said "Hello my wife who is always on the computer"
