Farting Frogs

I just got home with a new "necklace" for Jadie and she is very happy with it.

The more I think about it the more I am glad Curt had to stay home this past week. (I'm sorry he hurt his back). We've really gotten to spend some alone time together and who knows when the next time that will happen again.

I've also learned something about him that I never knew before and that could be grounds for divorce! HE MAKES HIS PEANUT BUTTER AND JELLY SANDWICHES WRONG! The other day he made himself a sandwich and me a sandwich and as I took a bite into it I immediately noticed that it tasted funny. I pulled the bread apart to inspect it and realized he spread one side of the bread with Peanut Butter and the other side with Jelly. When I correctly make a PB&J I put both on one side of the bread, allowing the flavors to mix.

I think I am hung up on PB&J and it is all my brother's fault. I remember wanting to do everything Ted did. He would mix Peanut Butter and Jelly in a bowl and dip in triscits. I would try to copy him and he would always tell me I didn't have the right blend or something.

Curt still hasn't smoked a cigarette and I'm still not getting my hopes up that he has quit. I'm just keeping my mouth shut. Besides, why ruin our good time with nagging. They'll be plenty of time for that later!

Today Curt had another Dr's appointment and that is where "You haven't had that baby yet?" started. Since then we've been called, e-mailed, and instant messaged by just about everyone we know asking the same thing. Yes, we had the baby sometime today, quickly came home, and are keeping it secret. We don't want any of your germs infecting our kid! :-)

While Curt was waiting for the DR to come in and was laying on the chiropractic table with heat on his back he passed gas. He looks at me and says "Did you hear that frog?"

In the car later I asked him why he was trying to blame his farts on a frog and that I would google "farting frogs"... turns out there are 184 webpages for farting frogs. My favorite is Ask the Farting Frog which answers yes/no questions for you.

Slave Driver

Tonight Lucas and I sat down to get his Valentine's Day cards ready to pass out to his classmates tomorrow. He signed three cards before he turned to me and said, "I think I'm getting tired. You can just do the rest. I'll go take my bath." So Curt went and filled up the bathtub and I slaved away feeling out Toy Story Valentines. When Lucas was clean and wrinkled he got out of the bath and headed over to check out my handiwork only to find me still working on his cards. "What? Mom you are not finished yet?!?!" Then he sat down beside me and started stuffing envelopes and talking about how excited he was to pass out the cards to his friends tomorrow.

Tonight was one of those nights that make me thankful for all the little unsung things that my parents did for me as a child (like buying Valentine's Day cards or cutting my PB&J into 4 little triangles.)

Oh Forgot

Oh and I forgot to add that Saturday my brakes start squeaking but I can't go and get them looked at until I am sure the money posts to my account! C'est la vie though!

On the bright side I have a roof over my head and food in the cupboards even though there isn't much and I really need to go grocery shopping...

Who wants to eat cereal or PB&J without milk???

Oh there was one really funny moment in the midst of all the stress... My loving husband Curt is a talker in his sleep! Well Thursday night (early Friday morning) I am laying in the bed trying to go to sleep and Curt is snoring... the next thing I know he passes gas VERY LOUDLY and stops snoring long enough to say "Sorry Jadie" then goes right back to snoring...

Jadie is our little dog that sleeps at the foot of our bed under the covers snuggled up next to my feet. So in his sleep he apologizes not to his wife, but to our dog and then goes right back to snoring... I cracked up laughing and thought I was going to wake him up....

I need to get a tape recorder to keep by the bed! He never believes me when stuff like this happens!

First Day of School

Last night Lucas was all excited to go to school. I kept thinking about how I was going to be handing off my baby to a perfect stranger. I went to the grocery store and bought juice boxes and cheese sticks and teared up a little because I was buying them for Lucas' SCHOOL LUNCH! I stayed up to make Lucas the perfect 1st day of school lunch. I made sure to cut his PB&J (made the CORRECT WAY of course) with an apple shaped cookie cutter. I also packed an apple juice, and apple sauce. Don't worry, I also packed a few other things. I made sure his uniform was laid out and his backpack was all packed. Then I went back in his room and made sure he was all covered up. Then I headed to bed, setting my alarm for 7AM taking in consideration that I would need time to snooze and snuggle with Lucas in the morning (since he always climbs into our bed when Curt leaves for work in the wee hours of the morning.)
When the alarm went off I pressed snooze twice and cuddled my sweet boy and then tried to get him out of the bed. He told me he did NOT want to go to school. He did NOT want to meet new friends. He did NOT want to have any fun and he did NOT want to get out of bed. In the back of my mind I was thinking "sounds good to me," but I know that I had to suck it up and be an adult. So I was able to coax Lucas out of bed and into the bathroom to go pee. Then I managed to get him to eat some breakfast and then he crashed on the couch. He told me he was sick and just couldn't go to school because he was covered in germs. Then I mentioned that I had packed him a special lunch in his CARS lunchbox. He started dropping his guard a little. Then I mentioned how there was a special note tucked inside and he got the tiniest bit excited.
Somehow I managed to get him in his uniform and put his shoes and socks on. Suddenly it was like a magic switch turned on and he was suddenly happy and couldn't wait to get to school. He was even happy to pose for pictures.
Even when his mood approved the one thing he was still bummed about was not getting to ride the bus to school. Luckily my car is school bus yellow and I was able to convince him that he had his very OWN school bus to ride in to school. He thought that was very cool and kept saying, "I'm riding in Mommy's bus."
Right before we pulled out of the driveway Curt ended up calling so that he could talk to Lucas before school. Perfect timing! Lucas told him he was excited to go to school because his class had puzzles. Then his Grandma Valeri called and he told her about the puzzles too.
When we got to his school he hopped right out of the car and headed right for his class. All the fear that he had when he first woke up had completely melted away. All the faculty and staff were standing outside the classrooms making sure the kids knew were to go and that all the kids felt welcome.
When we walked in Lucas' class he immediately walked straight over to the wall to hang up his backpack like the other kids were doing. He saw the kids playing with toys at the tables and instantly ran over to play. (Mom who?) I helped him find his name on a table and gave him a kiss goodbye and left. I stood outside the door watching him for a few moments. He never looked up from the table to see where I went. He seemed perfectly fine without me, so I started crying, pulled my sunglasses down over my eyes and walked to my car.
Curt and I both went to pick up Lucas from school today. The car pool line was HORRIBLE but I'm sure it is to be expected on the first day. I guess if you want to get your kid at a decent time you need to line up REALLY early. We'll see how it goes tomorrow. Lucas' school ended at 3:50 and it was almost 4:30 before we even laid eyes on our baby. Curt spotted him first. He knew the minute he saw the curls. His teacher walked him to the car and said he did great and had a great first day. I got Lucas buckled in and he burst into tears and said he didn't do so great at school. I told him that his teacher said he did wonderful and that seemed to calm him down. Then he told us that he loved new friends and he got to eat in the cafeteria and carry his own lunch box there. He always says that he wants to go back tomorrow.
Oh, and the ONLY thing he didn't eat out of his entire lunch... the PB&J sandwich. Good thing Jadie LOVES apple shaped sandwiches.

Lucas' Last Night of Soccer

Today was Lucas' very last night of soccer and I'm kind of glad. The Early Goal Program was amazing and Lucas' coach was awesome but with the time change a few weeks ago 5:30 practices where just too late!
Lucas was excited all day to go to soccer but by the time we got there he was tired and cold and didn't want to participate for the first twenty-five minutes.
Lucas finally started to participate in the last few activities because I was able to bribe him with a PB&J (good thing he was playing soccer and didn't have to use his hands!)
After a few soccer games the kids all sat on their balls and the coaches called each player one by one and gave them a certificate and a little medal. Then when everyone had their awards each player got a chocolate cupcake.
I'm not sure when the next round of Early Goals soccer starts up again but I think we will take a break for a while because of the weather turning colder. However, I would recommend the program in a heartbeat to anyone else and I'm so glad Lucas got to play. He loved his coach and you can't beat the cost of the program either. $40 for 2 months of soccer and that included a t-shirt, certificate, medal, and a yummy cupcake topped with a single mini-marshmallow.

Our Merry Little Christmas

Since Santa's elves forgot to include the screws for us to put together Lucas' kitchen, Santa just left Lucas a stocking full of goodies and neatly laid out the toy food and dishes for the kitchen.

Lucas didn't even notice that he didn't have a "big" Santa present out.

He had so much fun playing with his food.

Before we knew it there were toys all over the place.

Lucas took a break from playing to check out his new big boy cup and big bird utensils.

Then it was time to go to Grandma and Grandpa Moore's house for more presents. One of the cool gifts was another set of play food which included a PB&J on the same side of the bread. It also has an orange that opens and has orange slices inside. He has been carrying the orange around all night.

Lucas also got cool new Veggie Tale stuff from his Grandparents. He got a Christmas DVD and a new Singalong DVD and also a Christmas ornament. His favorite thing by far is his Veggie Tale School bus (which I had to tuck in bed with him tonight.)

After my parents' house it was time to go to Grandma and Grandpa Hunter's House. We had a lot of fun and Lucas got even more presents (how does a 1 year old have this many toys?!?!) Daddy gave Lucas a candy cane which is becoming quite the tradition.

We had such an amazing Christmas. We are so blessed to live so close to our family and be able to celebrate with them. I already can't wait until next year since Lucas will get to be even more involved. I know he will understand more about the Christmas Story and help bake cookies and make presents for our friends and family.

Today was a Good Day

So, let's try this again. I can?t believe my journal entry just disappeared! Well last night I ended up sleeping on the couch. Sometimes it is just easier to find a comfortable position on it because of all the pillows. I think I finally feel asleep about 2:30-3 AM and at 5 I woke up because I had to pee. I laid there for a while trying to decide it I wanted to go pee or not and I heard Curt get up to go to the bathroom and trip over the laundry basket I had put out the day before so he could pick up his clothes? which I know this is going to sound bad but it made me smile! (Which I told him later today and it made him laugh) I waited until I heard him go back to bed and I got up to pee and laid back down. I went to sleep until I woke up at 6. That is a good night of sleep for me! LOL

At 6:30 Nick, one of the guys Curt works for called and asked for the chiropractor we used when we got rear ended about a year ago. I guess he hurt his back or something. Curt left for work and then called 5 minutes later and said he was on his way home. I guess his boss Billy called and told him that if he wanted to take the day off he could since Nick called in and so did another guy. They work with such large sheets of glass it usually takes 2 people on each job. They were supposed to have Friday off so he can just work that day. It?s not like we would be out Thursday night for St.Patrick's day for a wild not of drinking, even if I wasn't pregnant. So Curt would just be doing busy work like cleaning the shop, which he hates more then anything. So he volunteered he help me at the house instead since he knew I was upset with him the night before.

When he got back home he came in and went straight to the bathroom, picked up his clothes, cleaned the sink and the counter. Then he vacuumed the baby's room and we ate breakfast together, bowls of KIX cereal. Curt isn't a big fan but I love it because it was the only cereal I would eat growing up. Since I?ve been pregnant I have craved foods that remind me of my childhood. Instant grits with melted slice cheese remind me of my Grandparents. No matter what time we would get to their house when we came into town to visit for the summers my Grandma would make me a bowl of grits. She would put a tea kettle on the stove to heat the water up and then poor it over the grits and cheese in these heavy white bowls. PB&J reminds me of my Dad. He would always make my sister and me these sandwiches when he was home at lunch time. He would cut them into 4 triangles and serve it with alphabet soup. These no bake oatmeal fudge cookies they sell at Wal-mart and Food Lion in the bakery section remind me of these gross microwave cookies my mom would make. I just love them now that I am pregnant.

Anyway after we ate our KIX we went grocery shopping. It was nice to have someone there to distract me from gagging. I have really hated grocery shopping pregnant because whatever I see that day that particular day makes me sick and I start gagging right there in the middle of the aisle. So it was nice to have Curt to make me laugh and joke around with. Of course when he is there we usually spend more money because he wants stuff I wouldn?t normally buy like Jell-O (I know so expensive right) and cans of black olives. He has the strangest snack habits (his favorites are black olives and lemons!) When we got home we brought the groceries in and he put them away while I checked my eBay and email. It was really nice!

I took my first of two naps today and I think he played some game on the computer. When I woke up he helped me straighten up the living room and then I made us a sandwich to split since it was late in the afternoon and I didn?t want to spoil our dinner. Which brings me back to the whole emotional connection to food thing? I made this sandwich that I used to order from 606 E. Cafe when it was open. That was the place my best friend Katie and I would go all through high school and when she would come back to visit from Florida. 606 was downtown in city market and it closed about two yeas ago. Anyway we would always order "Carlena's Fave" which was chicken fingers on toasted French bread with pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, and honey mustard. YUM! Greatest sandwich ever. So they remind me of Katie. Curt loves them now too.

After that I went and took a shower and then Jadie and I went and picked up the mail. We got the "Pregnancy for Dummies" DVD from Netflix and I watched it. It was about the third trimester and the first 3 months of the baby?s life. It made me feel really smart and "prepared" because everything in the DVD I had already read or heard from Lisa. After that I made Tacos and Curt and I ate dinner together.

I am starting to think that the other day when I thought I was having Braxton hicks contractions it is just Lucas moving around. I swear I think he is going to be a soccer player or something with how much he kicks and moves around. It is the strangest feeling in the world!! Well I had more written earlier but this is pretty darn good for having to retype it all! Plus I want to watch the news to see the updates for the "Miss Savannah Trial," it is so hard to believe that Nicki is on trial for murder. I graduated with her.

Since nothing else is going on....

Curt today at his chiropractor. First they put these little pads on that give him tiny electric shocks on his back. Then the Dr comes in and jumps on his back. (which is pretty funny) then they put ice on his back and it is all over. After that we head to the car and get in dumb fights because I am cranky. By the time I am home I am usually laughing.

Today while he was on the table he said "let's alligator thumb wrestle." when I asked him what he was talking about he said "you know one, two, three, four, alligator thumb war." This had me laughing like crazy because I know we may disagree about PB&J but I KNOW it is supposed to be "One, Two, Three, Four, I DECLARE THUMB WAR"

****

I thought I would rave about the place Brandi suggested for lunch today. We went to Queeny's to go go and it was REALLY good. I think it is the place I will take people when they come to visit from out of town or when friends want to get together downtown for lunch. It was easy to find, actually has parking, and the food was really good.

I also had great company! I'm so glad I got to hang out with Lila Jane and her nanny, Brandi. It was fun. However, it was really strange to watch Brandi taking care of a baby. It was like "wow that's what I'll be doing soon."
